The answer to this question varies on the child and the family.

Some children read best in the morning or afternoon or evening.

For my sons, I read with them in the evening, but not right before bed. I read with my sons’ after dinner time and after shower time, but about an hour before their bed time.

We had a reading routine. Our reading routine was: dinner, shower, reading, and then a quiet 15-30 minute activity.

However, with my daughter she likes to read at the very end of her day. She enjoys curling up under her covers and reading together right before she goes to bed.

My daughter and I have a reading routine too. Our reading routine is: dinner, play time, shower then reading.

Every child is different. However, I feel making a reading routine is important to help children make reading part of their daily life.
