A Digraph is the combination of two letters that make a one sound. Some examples of Digraphs are the sounds: sh, th, ch, qu, oo (as a U sound)
Some examples of Sh words are: Sheep, Short, Ship, Shark
Some examples of Th words are: Thorn, Thing, This, That
Some examples of Ch words are: Watch, Chip, Chat, Witch
Some examples of Qu words are: Queen, Quick, Quit, Quiet
Some examples of Oo (as a U sound) are: Cook, Book, Look
Instead of teaching the advanced concept of what is a Digraph, we teach common Digraph sounds for children to memorize and use as tools to decode unfamiliar words.
